Why (mt) is Awesome
by Jamison "JAK" Kissh on December 15, 2008
Well I’ve always been a fan of Media Temple (mt) since I began hosting with them back in the summer and here’s a reason why like them so much more compared to the hosting company that my company’s site is on.
Whenever I have an outage at work they never do anything to notify me (except once recently). Media Temple on the other hand has been having issues (I’ve noticed) with my cluster (#3) and my storage unit (#5) good luck on my part *rolls eyes*. Regardless (mt) sends out an email to let me know that my site is going down for maintinence for a period. Not only will they be on time it will be done and greatly improve my site’s reliability, I hope, since it’s been terrible the last two days.
Best of all Media Temple keeps a blog going where you can track all the big incidents, in case you’re curious it’s located here.
As a side note, my site may be unvailable during this period of planned maintinence late tonight.
Hosting on Windows Sucks
by Jamison "JAK" Kissh on December 2, 2008
Well I was at work today attempting to upgrade to Wordpress 2.7 beta 3 without the nice automatic upgrade and I ended up failing to get it to work because well frankly, Windows hosting sucks. I finally got it to work after a while though, it took some playing around with some Plesk, IIS, AND Windows Explorer. I’ve got to say that hosting Wordpress on an Apache platform is a much easier since all it takes is setting the permissions to 777 for the necessary folders. I really hate windows hosting, not only is it slow it’s tough to launch anything.
